Issue



A snapshot backup of Exchange 2003 fails with: "0xE0008516: Resources specified for snapshot do not have any valid data on them" when a Recovery Storage Group (RSG) is included in the backup selections.

0xE0008516: Resources specified for snapshot do not have any valid data on them. Check if files were deleted or renamed

Environment



 

Microsoft Exchange 2003

-This only occurs when Advanced Open File (AOFO) is enabled when backing up the Exchange 2003 Information Store and

- A recovery storage group has been configured and is selected in the backup selection list .


Cause



A Recovery Storage Group is included in the backup selections:

 


Solution



1. Open the backup job or the selection list and remove the Recovery Storage Group selection from the list.

Note: It is NOT recommended to use snapshots (AOFO) when backing up Exchange 2003. Please see  HOWTO12698 for more information

2. If the  Recovery Storage Group is not required : dismount and delete this from within the Exchange System Manager.

3. Re-run the backup job
