Issue



Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 running in trial mode on a full Windows server OS generates an error if a Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 Small Business Server Edition product key is applied.


Error



Error EC8F17C8: Invalid serial number

 

In the debug logs:

Error EC8F1C20: Cannot install license.
Error EC8F17C8: Invalid serial number: <serial number>


Cause



The license being used, the Small Business Server Edition, will not install to a full server OS - it only installs to SBS versions (Windows 2003 SBS, WIndows 2008 SBS). Other Windows server editions require the "full" Backup Exec System Recovery Server Edition license.

The Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 Desktop Edition can be used on desktop operating systems (XP, Vista and Windows 7)


Solution



Contact the reseller or Customer Care to coordinate exchanging the license for one that matches the target OS.
