Solution

Consult the VMWare specialist or support to check the possibility of changing the disk definition (sometimes array managing software will require to have the disks as independent).

Information from VMWare forum http://communities.vmware.com/thread/138945

To change the disk from Independent Mode

  1. Choose Inventory > Virtual Machine > Edit Settings.|
  2. Click the Hardware tab, and select the hard disk you want to change - it should be Hard Disk 1 but check both
  3. Under Mode, deselect Independent.
