When using the Storage Pool Configuration Wizard while topology files are corrupted or missing, running the wizard could result in a reinstallation of the PureDisk environment which would completely overwrite the existing environment, rendering it unusable and unrecoverable.
What is Affected:
This issue affects the following versions of NetBackup PureDisk:
- 6.6.0.x (all versions)
How to Determine if Affected:
Check the size and contents of the topology_nodes.ini file by running either or both of the following commands:
# ls -l /Storage/etc/topology_nodes.ini
# cat /Storage/etc/topology_nodes.ini
If this file is found to be empty, running the Storage Pool Configuration Wizard will result in a re-install of the PureDisk environment.
The formal resolution to this issue (Etrack 2227601) is scheduled to be included in a future release of PureDisk.
Verify the contents of the topology_nodes.ini file before using the Storage Pool Configuration Wizard.
If this workaround is unfeasible, please contact Symantec technical support, referencing this document ID and Etrack 2227180 to obtain an Emergency Engineering Binary (EEB) replacement library containing a fix for this issue.
Note: This fix adds a warning dialogue to the GUI and allows an opportunity to abort the wizard. However, it does not resolve any issues regarding the underlying corruption in the topology information. To resolve these issues, please contact Symantec technical support.
Symantec strongly recommends the following best practices:
1. Always perform a full DR backup prior to making any changes to your environment.
2. Always make sure that your environment is running the latest version and patch level.
3. Perform periodic "test" restores.
4. Subscribe to technical articles.

Using "storage pool configuration wizard" to add a service to PD needs a warning if it is going to re-install PD.
