When a standalone Backup Exec server is converted in to a CASO (Central Administration Server Option) server, the following exception is seen:

 "Client side de-duplication is enabled  but could not be used for a client backup job."

- Windows Server 2008 R2

- Backup Exec 2010


Cause



This message is shown if the deduplication folder is not shared between the CASO and MMS (Managed Media Server) server.

 


Solution



Check if the deduplication device is visible under the CASO server . If it is not visible then we need to enable the sharing of the deduplication folder from the MMS server where the de-duplication device is connected.

To share a deduplication device between multiple media servers follow the steps below:
 
1. On the navigation bar, click Devices.
 
2. In the Devices view, right-click the deduplication storage folder, the Open Storage device, or the Remote Agent with Direct Access that you want media servers to access.
 
3. Select Manage sharing.
 
4. Select the deduplication device that you want to share.
 
5. Under Media Servers, select the media servers that you want to use with the deduplication device.
 
6. Click OK.
 
7. Restart the Backup Exec services on the media servers that you selected in step 5.
