The CCS Diagnostic Suite is a utility that gathers log files and system-specific configuration data from the various machines where CCS components are installed.  The logs are collected and stored in a location specified by the user. 

You may add as many computers as you want. The utility creates separate folders for each computer and stores the relevant files in the respective folder.

The CCS Diagnostic Suite can gather logs and files from the following CCS components: CCS Manager (version 11.0 and above), Application Server, Directory Support Service, Data Processing Service (DPS...Version 9.x and 10.x), Encryption Management Service, Web Portal, and the CCS Console.

Note: Continue to retrieve agent based message based logs using the ESM console.

 

Solution



Locating the CCS Diagnostic utility

The CCS Diagnostic utility is installed the User Profile folder where the CCS Console is installed.

To locate the CCS Diagnostic utility:

  1. Launch the Task Manager. (Ensure that the CCS Console is running before launching the Task Manager.)
  2. In the Processes tab locate the CCS Console process, it will begin with "SymConsole....". 
  3. Right-click the process and select Open File Location. 
  4. In the opened folder,  navigate to Applications -> tools -> CCSDiag.
  5. In the CCSDiag folder locate and execute Symantec.CCSDiagnosticSuite.UI.exe to launch the CCS Diagnostic utility.

 

Executing the CCS Diagnostic Suite

[Note:  The attached CCSDiag.zip file is consolidated for CCS version 9.x, 10.x, and 11.x with fixes for defects found in previous versions.]

You can choose to gather files from the local host computer or specify the computers from which you want to gather data.

To execute the CCS Diagnostic Suite on the local computer:

  1. Go to <install directory>:\CCSDiag and double-click the Symantec.CCSDiagnosticSuite.UI.exe to launch the utility.
  2. From the toolbar, click File > Output Directory and navigate to the location where you want to save the log files.
  3. From the toolbar, click File > Number of log files to copy and select the number of log files to return. NOTE: By default the 10 latest files will be copied from the target server.
  4. In the left-hand panel, select the Control Compliance Suite components for which you want the utility to collect log files.
  5. From the toolbar, click File > Add Machine if you want the utility to copy logs from another computer.
  6. In the Add Machine dialog box, do the following:

Name/IP
Enter the name or the IP address of the computer that you want to add.
Server Role
Select the role of the CCS database server.
Residing Applications
Select the CCS components on the basis of the server role that you selected.
Use Credentials
Check if you want to use the domain credentials to login to the selected computer.

Turn on verbose logging by expanding +Local Machine\Reporting and Analytics\Data Processing Service\Logging.  (If you added any additional machines, expand those as well and go to the same location.)

  1. Select the Set log level Verbose option.  Do this for each component verbose logging is needed, i.e. Data Processing Service\Logging, Application Server\Logging, CCSConsole\Logging.
  2. Click Execute.  
  3. Minimize CCSDiag (but don't close it), go back to Control Compliance Suite and recreate the issue support is helping with.
  4. Maximize CCSDiag and go back to Local Machine\Reporting and Analytics\Data Processing Service\Logging. (If you added any additional machines, expand those as well and go to the same location)
  5. Deselect Set log level Verbose
  6. Select Gather application server logs, Gather Install Logs, Gather event logs.
  7. Click Execute.
  8. Deselect Gather application server logs, Gather Install Logs, Gather event logs.
  9. Select Restore Log Level.
  10. Click Execute.

When the execution is complete, you can view the log files in the location that you specified and forward them to the TSE who requested the logs.

 

Discovering CCS Components 

You can discover all the CCS Components installed on a specified machine. 

To discover CCS components:

  1. Go to <install directory>:\CCSDiag and double-click Symantec.CCSDiagnosticSuite.UI.exe to launch the utility.
  2. From the toolbar, go to File > Discover CCS Components and provide the following information:
  • ADAM server: IP address or a hostname
  • Port: 3890. This is a default value.
  • CCS Version: Select the appropriate CCS version.
  • NOTE:  To discover CCS components on a computer that is in another domain, the utility must be run in the context of a user who has access to the target domain.  Right-click on Symantec.CCSDiagnosticSuite.UI.exe and select Run As to enter user credentials for the target domain.

Once CCS Components\Machines have been discovered, select a machine from the list and click Add.
