=============
PREREQUISITES
=============
This Patch should be installed on a NetBackup 5000 Deduplication appliance
running the 6.6.0.2 version of the PureDisk software.
Installing this patch requires planned downtime since all backup and
deduplication services on the appliance are stopped and restarted as
part of the patch installation.
Note:
The patch installer automatically creates upgrade jobs for the agent software
on the clients. The installer however, does NOT create agent upgrade jobs for
the PDDO agents on the NetBackup media server clients. To upgrade media server
clients, follow the procedure in the section titled, "Upgrading PDDO client
agents on media servers".

PRODUCT FIXES AND ENHANCEMENTS
================================
This patch brings the software features of the NetBackup 5020 Deduplication
appliance to the NetBackup 5000 appliance, within the limits of the
NetBackup 5000 hardware itself. The NetBackup 5020 Getting Started Guide
provides an overview of the software functions enabled.
1. Support for Call Home And Hardware Monitoring Alerts: The appliance can
connect with a Symantec Call Home server and upload hardware status
information. This allows Symantec support to proactively identify the
hardware problems on the appliance.
2. Improved user interface for initial configuration:
* New network configuration wizard. This wizard allows configuring
individual network interfaces and DNS settings.
* 'ChangeIP' configuration page has been removed. It has been replaced
by the new network configuration wizard.
* Flexible options for network bonding. 'bonding' command on the CLI
allows configuration of multiple network interface bonds. Support for
additional bonding modes, like dynamic link aggregation (802.3ad).
* New CLIs for restoring to factory settings, setting 'node IP' and
un-configuring IP addresses.
* ET2124250: upgraded 'recoverCR' package (v3.44).
* ET1902001: Disable the "remove node" button when there is only the SPA
node in the node list.
* ET2163427: Appliance backup throughput periodically drops to 0.
3. ET2106868: Replication enhancements (EEB14) designed to improve
performance for PureDisk and PDDO-based replication. These
enhancements also include changes to tunable parameters.
=============
KNOWN ISSUES
=============
1. You cannot rollback this patch if the appliance has been reset
to factory settings after installing the patch.
2. Interrupting the patch installation or rollback process (with a
Ctrl-C, for instance) might leave the binaries on the appliance
in an inconsistent state.
3. ET2212011: Error 610 "end point terminated" during an optimized
synthetic backup. This issue is not fixed in the patch.

DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS
===================================
1. Make sure that no PureDisk jobs are currently running or are scheduled
to be run. Make sure that all the CRs are up and running and accessible
from the SPA.
2. Log on as "root" on the appliance node that hosts the Storage Pool
Authority (SPA) and copy the patch tar-ball (NBU5000_1.2.tar) to the
directory, /root/pd-patches. If the directory, /root/pd-patches
does not exist, you must create it first.
3. Logout and log in as user "sysadmin" on the appliance node that hosts
the Storage Pool Authority (SPA).
4. At the command prompt type "PureDisk" to access the "patch" sub-command.
5. Type the command, "patch list-downloaded" to verify the name of the
downloaded patch. The output should include the patch "NBU5000_1.2.tar".
6. Type the command, "patch apply NBU5000_1.2.tar" to install the downloaded
patch. This command installs the patch on the SPA node and also on all
the active content router nodes.
NOTE:
a. If any of the CRs is not accessible, the patch is not installed
on any of the nodes in the storage pool.
b. If the topology.ini file is encrypted, the patch installer prompts
you for the password to decrypt this file.
c. The installation process stops all PureDisk services on all nodes in
the storage pool. The services are restarted after the installation.
d. The installer automatically pushes the software to all nodes in the
storage pool.
e. The installation process automatically starts jobs to upgrade the
client agents. However, PDDO agents have to upgraded manually. Refer
to the section below for details.
f. If a CR node is added to the storage pool after the patch is installed,
the patch is automatically installed on the newly added CR.
7. Type the command, "patch list-applied" to verify that the patch has
been applied. The newly applied patch, "NBU5000_1.2" should appear.
8. Exit the "PureDisk" menu and access the "System" menu to access the
"applianceversion" sub-command. From the "System" prompt, type the command,
"applianceversion" to verify the version of the appliance (should be 1.2).
9.(Conditional) Upgrade the PDDO agent software on PDDO media server clients.
Perform the procedure called "UPGRADING PDDO AGENTS ON MEDIA SERVER
CLIENTS", which follows. The release update includes upgraded
PDDO agents for Linux, Solaris, and Windows clients.
======================
ROLLBACK INSTRUCTIONS
======================
1. Make sure that no PureDisk jobs are currently running or are scheduled
to be run. Make sure that all the CRs are up and running and accessible
from the SPA.
2. Log on as "sysadmin" on the appliance node that hosts the Storage Pool
Authority (SPA).
3. At the command prompt type "PureDisk" to access the "patch" sub-command.
4. Type the command, "patch list-applied" to verify that the patch has
been applied. "NBU5000_1.2" should be listed in this output.
5. Type the command, "patch rollback NBU5000_1.2" to rollback to
the previous version.
NOTE:
a. If any of the CRs is not accessible, the patch is not rolled back from
any of the nodes in the storage pool.
b. If the topology.ini file is encrypted, the installer prompts you for
the password to decrypt this file.
c. The installer automatically rolls back the patch from all nodes in the
storage pool.
d. At the end of a successful rollback, the installer prompts you to
encrypt the topology.ini file.
e. The installer automatically starts jobs to downgrade the client agents.
PDDO agents, however, have to be downgraded manually.
f. Installer prints the message "Rollback completed successfully" to
indicate a successful rollback.
g. Only the latest patch (NBU5000_1.2) can be rolled back.
6. Type the command, "patch list-applied" to verify that the patch (NBU5000_1.2) no longer shows up as applied.

UPGRADING PDDO AGENTS ON MEDIA SERVERS
=======================================
1. Make sure that the storage pool software for the PDDO clients has been
upgraded.
2. Refresh the PureDisk landing page.
The landing page can be found on:
https://<your-puredisk-spa>/
For <your-puredisk-spa>, type the hostname or the IP address of your
PureDisk Storaga Pool Authority.
3. Log in to each PDDO client.
4. From the PDDO media server client, download the new PDDO agent software.
5. Stop all NetBackup services on the NetBackup media server.
6. Install the agent software included with this release update.
* On Windows systems, double-click the PureDisk agent icon. This starts
the Windows installation Wizard.
* On Linux or Solaris systems, you can use either the attended or the
unattended installation method. The installer prompts you to confirm
the upgrade.
NOTE: The upgrade software removes the old PDDO agent software
automatically.
For more information about how to install the PDDO agent, see the Symantec
NetBackup PureDisk Deduplication Option Guide.
7. Start all the NetBackup services on the NetBackup media server.
