Problem

Same error for fresh installation or upgrade of a previous version, when executing the server.exe from the installation media, an error message is shown the installer exits the routine.

Error

Symantec Critical System Protection Management Server

An error {-5004 : 8x80070005} has occured while running the setup

Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications.

If the error still occures, please contact your vendor: Symantec.

Environment

Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 Enterprise Edition 32 bit

Cause

Windows Installer 3.1 and Java Virtual Machine 1.3 are present on this system

Solution

Upgrading the Windows Installer to 4.5 and JVM to 1.6.x solved the issue
