Explanation of why Backup Exec 2010 R2 SP1 creates files with .out extension in the Agent Update directories

Problem
After installing Backup Exec 2010 R2 (SP1) Service Pack 1 additional files with the extension .out are created in the Backup Exec installation path Agent and Agent Update folders. Example (FIGURE 1)

Cause
Backup Exec 2010 R2 SP1 (Service Pack 1) adds additional files to the Backup Exec Media server. These files are located in Backup Exec installation directory Agent Updates folders and have extensions of .out.
Five locations will contain the additional .out files listed below. The amount of .out files depends on the previous Backup Exec hot fixes installed prior to installing Backup Exec 2010 R2 SP1. Each file name represents a Backup Exec 2010 R2 hot fix number released before Backup Exec 2010 R2 SP1.

Solution
The .out files are present to correct hot fix and service pack patching issues.
