Issue

This article describes how to view additional setup logs when installing PGP Endpoint.

Note: This article applies to PGP Endpoint 4.3.1 and above.

Solution

When installing PGP Endpoint, additional custom setup logs are generated to assist you in troubleshooting any problems with the installation of the software.

The following setup logs are created in your Windows temp folder (they will not all reside in the %TMP% folder of the user context):

.\setupdb.log
.\setupsmc.log
.\setupsxs.log
.\setupdbCustom.log
.\setupsmcCustom.log
.\setupsxsCustom.log
.\sxdbi.log

Additional logs are also created in another system dependent temp folder (e.g., %TMP%\1 vs %TMP%)

.\setupdbCustom.log
.\setupsmcCustom.log
.\setupsxsCustom.log

Explanation:

Setup generates 2 log files, the standard Windows Installer (MSI) log file and a custom log file that contains only logs from custom installations.

The standard Windows Installer (MSI) log file is automatically handled by the Windows Installer and is placed in the "%TMP%" folder of the user performing the setup. The setup log file name is "setupXXX.log".

The custom log file is created in the current %TMP% folder and is named "setupXXXCustom.log".
