Unable to query a Windows Vista Computer using the PGP Endpoint Deploy Tool

This article describes how to query a Vista system using the Deploy Tool. This applies to PGP Endpoint 4.3.1 and above.

 

Issue

When you query a Vista system with the Deployment Tool, you receive a Path not found error. However, you can successfully install and uninstall the PGP Endpoint client using the Deploy Tool on the same Vista system. This is caused by the Remote Registry service being disabled by default on Windows Vista. The Remote Registry service is required to query a system when utilizing the Deployment Tool.

 


Solution




 

Workaround

To use the Deployment Tool to query a Windows Vista system, enable the Remote Registry service on the system.

To enable the Remote Registry service:

 

  1. Click Start>Control Panel.
  2. Click Administrative Tools>Services.
  3. Scroll down to the Remote Registry service.
  4. On the General tab, change the Startup type: to Automatic.
  5. Click OK to apply the change.
  6. Close the Services console.
Note: This issue may also occur on Windows XP systems which have the Remote Registry service disabled.
