This article details some of the most frequently asked questions for the PGP Whole Disk Encryption Controller.

Solution

  • The first time you run PGP Whole Disk Encryption Controller, you might receive an "Unknown Publisher" warning. If you get this warning, deselect Always ask before opening this file, and then click Run.

  • The zone security level in Internet Explorer must be set to Medium or lower on the Security tab of Internet Options (from the Tools menu), otherwise PGP Whole Disk Encryption Controller does not run.

  • If you select Override default keyring location (on the Key Management tab) and provide an invalid path to the keyring location on the client systems, the client system crashes after the reboot after installing PGP Whole Disk Encryption Workgroup Edition. To fix this issue, use these steps on the affected client systems:
  1. Exit PGP Whole Disk Encryption Workgroup Edition if it is running.

  2. Delete the PGPprefs.xml file at \Documents and Settings\\Application Data\PGP Corporation\PGP.

  3. Open the PGPadmin.xml file at \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\PGP Corporation\PGP, and find the lines:

    <key>enableKeyringLocationWin</key>

    <true></true>

    <key>keyringLocationWin</key>

    <string>invalidlocation</string>

  4. To use the default key location, modify the lines to:

    <key>enableKeyringLocationWin</key>

    <false></false>

    <key>keyringLocationWin</key>

    <string></string>

Alternatively, to use a custom location, modify the lines to:

    <key>enableKeyringLocationWin</key>

    <true></true>

    <key>keyringLocationWin</key>

    <string>valid location</string>

Note: Use a correctly formatted path to the keyring location in place of "valid location" in <string>valid location</string>. An example of a correctly formatted path is: <string>%userprofile%\My Documents\FolderWithKeyring</string>.

  5. Save and close the file.

  6. From the Start menu, select All Programs>Startup>PGPtray.exe.

  7. Enroll using the PGP Whole Disk Encryption Workgroup Edition.
