Issue

When you attempt to encrypt an external disk with PGP Endpoint, you receive a read error.

Solution

This error can occur when you encrypt a partition on an external disk with PGP Desktop and then attempt to encrypt the disk with PGP Endpoint.

Currently PGP Endpoint supports encrypting external disks using only whole disk encryption. Partition encryption of external disks is not supported using PGP Endpoint.

Encryption of partitions on external disks is only supported using PGP Desktop.

To encrypt a partitioned external disk with PGP Endpoint, you must backup your data and remove the partition from the disk. Then re-encrypt the external disk with PGP Endpoint and restore your data.
