PGP Whole Disk Encryption Error Message: Cannot Commit to Disk

When attempting to perform PGP Whole Disk Encryption, you receive the error Cannot commit to disk.


Solution




This error can occur when attempting to encrypt a disk with PGP Desktop 9.8.3 on Windows XP SP3. Windows XP Service Pack 3 is supported on versions of PGP Desktop 9.9.x and above. To use PGP Desktop on a system with Windows Service Pack 3, you must upgrade PGP Desktop.

To upgrade PGP Desktop:

  1. Uninstall PGP Desktop.
  2. Reboot the computer.
  3. Delete the PGP Corporation folder with the following directory: C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\
  4. Download the most recent version to PGP Desktop using the link in your order confirmation email.
  5. Install PGP Desktop and authorize the license.
