Problem

When installing PGP Universal Server, you receive the following error:

"An error has occurred - no valid devices were found on which to create new file systems. Please check you hardware for the cause of this problem."

This error can occur when attempting to install the server on unsupported hardware. This can be due to an unsupported RAID controller on the hardware.

Solution

While a broad array of other hardware may work well with PGP Universal Server, incompatibilities related to hardware that is not one of the above systems will not be supported. PGP Universal Server comes preloaded with certain drivers that are guaranteed to work with the certified hardware. When using devices or configurations not listed on the Certified Hardware List, PGP Universal Server may not have the appropriate drivers to provide support for your hardware.

General Troubleshooting

  1. Is the server hardware on the PGP Universal Server Certified Hardware List?

  2. Confirm the RAID controller on your hardware is included in the Certified Hardware List.

  3. If using certified hardware, use the pgp dd Installer Boot Option to load drivers for your RAID controller using the 3rd party drivers.
