Issue

RPC server unavailable error while connecting to RAM server through RAM Client

Error

 RPC server unavailable

Environment

RAM  v10.5 is installed.

Cause

The Response Assessment Module (RAM) components, especially in a distributed environment, use the existing TCP/IP network to communicate with each other. The RPCS error is displayed if the required ports are blocked by the firewall.

Based on the network configuration and on the location of RAM components, the communications need to pass through a firewall. For this communication to happen, few ports must be allowed through Firewall.

Solution

Firewalls are often located between the SQL Server, the RAM Server and the RAM Client systems.

The default ports that the RAM components use to communicate with each other are as follows:

1> On SQL Server machine that is hosting the RAM database, enable following port:

      > Port: 1433

2> On RAM Server machine, enable following ports:

    > RAM Admin Client    : 1977
    > Multimedia Service   : 8523
    > Integration Services  : 12432
