Environment

Windows Media server using MSDP (Media Server Deduplication Pool)

Cause

From the Deduplication Guide (linked below, page 38):
"NetBackup requires exclusive use of the disk resources. If the storage is used for purposes other than backups, NetBackup cannot manage disk pool capacity or manage storage lifecycle policies correctly. Therefore, NetBackup must be the only entity that uses the storage."

Solution

The MSDP pool requires exclusive access to the volume it writes to.  If it does not have exclusive access the images written could be corrupt.

This can be verified with a bpverify -backupid:

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\Admincmd>bpverify -backupid SVRNAME_1295992672
Verify started 1/27/2011 1:59:19 PM
INF - Verifying policy ASG_User_Data, schedule Full (SVRNAME_1295992672), path"@aaaak", created 01/25/2011 13:57:52.
INF - Verify of policy ASG_User_Data, schedule Full (SVRNAME_1295992672) failed, media open error.
INF - Status = no images were successfully processed (Corrupt Image)

If this is the case, remove any other storage units or 3rd party programs writing to this Disk pool.
