In Software delivery version 6x if you wished to back out of a software delivery job you had accidently enabled, you could have the users defer the job, and disable the policy and the job will not run.

In version 7 of software management solution the jobs are passed to the task scheduler locally to run. How can we stop this running in an emergency?

Solution

If the task has been passed to the task scheduler you can still have users defer the task if deferal is enabled.

Then you can disable the policy or task. Then you must have the agent check in.

Finally you must restart the altiris object host service on both the task server and the notification server that might be controlling the running of the task.

Now after the deferal period the task will not run.
