Restore of a SharePoint Portal Server Service Application or Service Application Proxy may fail with "An error occurred while connecting the restored databases to the Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server Farm. The portal was not restored"

 


Error



V-79-57344-65278 - An error occurred while connecting the restored databases to the Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server Farm. The portal was not restored.

SPSWrapper log reports one of the following messages:

[1454] 02/10/11 13:40:43  Error in executing cmd Restore-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -Name "Search Service Application 1" -ApplicationPool  "SecurityTokenServiceApplicationPool" -TopologyFile "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\RAWS\logs\af1733bd-36bb-4603-a504-05d9403c568b.xml"  -KeepId:$true error is ::An update conflict has occurred, and you must re-try this action. The objectSearchServiceApplication Name=Search Service Application 1 was updated by Domain\SPS2010$, in the OWSTIMER (1748) process, on machine SPS2010.  View the tracing log for more information about the conflict.

Cause



 

This issue may occur if IIS is in an inconsistent state due to Sharepoint activity.


Solution



Open a command prompt on the SharePoint Portal server, Run IISreset, and re-try the restore.
