Issue



Backup Exec 2010 Remote Agent can not register the registry permissions on x64 Windows environment if Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 already installed on the system.

Due to the registry permissions issue above, the following symptoms were observed, but not limited to.

  • Can not uninstall Remote Agent.
  • Can not find Oracle instance by Remote Agent Utility.
  • Can not find Exchange resource on Cluster.

 


Solution



This issue has been fixed on Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 Service Pack 1, so this issue does not occur when Backup Exec System Recovery has been upgraded to Service Pack 1 before Backup Exec 2010 Remote Agent installed.
If you already have the symptoms, please follow the instruction below.

  1.  Login the system as a administrator.
  2. Stop Backup Exec System Recovery Services and Backup Exec Remote Agent services.
      Backup Exec System Recovery
      SymSnapService
      Symantec SymSnap VSS Provider
      Backup Exec Error Recording Service
      Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems
  3. Launch task manager and stop VProTray.exe.
  4. Launch registry editor and go to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec'.
  5. Right click 'Symantec' ,select [Permissions...]. 
  6. Press [Advanced] button on 'Permissions for Symantec' window. 
  7. Turn on [Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent] and press [Apply] button.
  8. Press [OK] button twice to close 'Permissions for Symantec' window.
  9. Right click 'Adamm'.  Press [OK] if the error was shown in below.

     
  10. Right click 'Adamm' again, select [Permissions...].  Press [OK] if the error was shown in below.

  11. Press [Advanced] button on 'Permissions for Adamm' window.  Press [OK] if the error was shown in above.
  12. Select [Owner] tab on 'Advanced Security Settings for Adamm'.
  13. Select 'Administrators' on [Changed owner to:] section.
  14. Press [Apply] button, then Press [OK] button twice to close 'Permissions for Adamm' window.
  15. Right click 'Adamm', and select [Permissions...] again.
  16. Press [Advanced] button on 'Permissions for Adamm' window.
  17. Select [Permissions] tab on 'Advanced Security Settings for Adamm'.
  18. Turn on [Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent] and press [Apply] button.
  19. Press [OK] button twice to close 'Permissions for Adamm' window.
  20. Repeat from Step. 9 to Step. 19 for each registry keys in below (marked with red circle).
