Solution
Who should use the Symantec System Recovery Management Solution?
The Symantec System Recovery Management Solution (SSR-MS) enables centralized management of 20 (or more) Symantec System Recovery (SSR) clients. It replaces earlier management offerings, such as Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) Manager and the BESR Solution for Symantec Management Platform.
Important Note: Customers managing smaller SSR environments should consider using the remote administration feature. To manage a remote computer, select Add under the Computers menu in the SSR console, or select an already added computer from the list in the Computers menu. For more information, see “Adding remote computers to the Computer List” in the Symantec System Recovery User’s Guide.
SSR-MS simplifies managing large SSR environments by centralizing and automating management tasks. Some of the key features and capabilities that are offered by SSR-MS include:
Dashboard status view - Centrally view the overall status of your entire backup environment.
Policy-based management system - Create and deploy backup policies for multiple systems.
Remote client discovery - Discover systems you want to protect with SSR from a central location.
Remote recovery – Remotely recover a full system to a previous point in time.
Centralized agent distribution - Distribute agent packages across your network from a single console.
Support for SSR-Linux Edition – Manage Windows and Linux clients from the same console.
License deployment - View the license status of SSR clients and centrally deploy licenses.
Storage device monitoring - Monitor the capacity and usage status of backup storage devices.
Offsite Copy management - Centrally manage the transfer of backup data to Offsite Locations for disaster recovery.
Physical-to-virtual (P2V) conversion management - Centrally manage automated conversion of Recovery Points to virtual disk format.
Reports – Create custom reports based on your environment criteria.
Remote troubleshooting - Troubleshoot and resolve problems across multiple installations of SSR.
What editions of SSR and BESR does SSR-MS support?
All core editions of SSR and BESR are supported. These include: Server Edition, Desktop Edition, and Small Business Server Edition, Virtual Edition and the Linux Edition. For more information, see the Symantec System Recovery Software Compatibility List.
