Cause

AVVI installation files are missing or an incorrect version is installed on the Backup Exec server.  Example:  64-bit AVVI files (<volume>:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\VMware) installed on a 32-bit Backup Exec server.

Solution

1. First, uninstall and reinstall the AVVI option from the Backup Exec media server and re-run the VMware backup job.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

2. Delete the VMware folder in <volume>:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\VMware on the Backup Exec media server.

3. Reboot the Backup Exec media server.

4. Run a repair installation of Backup Exec:

  • Go to Windows 'Add or Remove Programs'.
  • Select Backup Exec from the list of installed applications
  • Click on 'Change'. A prompt to provide the Backup Exec installation media may occur.
  • Reboot the Backup Exec media server.
