Issue

Domain join tasks fail when a host's DNS suffix doesn't match the name of the domain to which it is being joined.

Environment

DS 6.9 (all builds)

Windows Server 2003 Active Directory

Cause

The DAgent gathers the DNS suffix name instead of the actual domain name with its inventory. Consequently, in those situations where the DNS suffix and the domain name are disjointed, domain join tasks fail. For more information on disjointed namespaces and their implications in an Active Directory environment, please refer to Microsoft KB article 909264.

To verify the the computer inventory contains incorrect information, do the following:

  1. In the Deployment Console, right-click any client, select Properties, then Network Configuration.
  2. The Domain field displays the DNS suffix name instead of the actual domain name.
