How to reactivate a disk using the Reactivate Disk command in VERITAS Volume Manager (tm) for Windows 2000

Solution



Occasionally, a Rescan will not clear error flags on a dynamic disk. When this happens, use the Reactivate Disk command to clear these flags. The Reactivate Disk command performs a manual restart on a disk. Dynamic disks that are marked as missing or offline may be reactivated. After reactivation, a disk should be marked as "Online" if attached and not in a failed condition.

To perform a disk reactivation in Volume Manager 2.7, follow the steps given below:

1. Right click the disk with the error and select Reactivate Disk from the context menu that appears. A dialog box will display. Choose which disk to reactivate and execute the command (Figure 1).

2. Select the disk or disks to reactivate by selecting the box associated to the disk and click OK. The disk should be marked as Online after the disk is reactivated unless there is a mechanical or other serious problem with the disk.  

For users of Volume Manager 3.0 or 3.1, use these steps to perform a disk reactivation:  

1. Right click on the disk with the error and select Reactivate Disk from the context menu that appears (Figure 2)

2. A confirmation window will display. Click OK to finish reactivating the disk (Figure 3). Repeat this operation for any other disks that may require reactivation.
