The following restriction applies to the deletion of archived files on placeholder deletion, for Enterprise Vault File System Archiving (FSA) with NetApp filer targets that run Data ONTAP 7.3.
For the successful deletion of an archived file after its placeholder is deleted, the path to the folder that contains the placeholder must not exceed 256 characters.
If the path exceeds 256 characters the file is not deleted, and an error appears in the NetApp syslog.
fpolicy.fscreen.request.pathError:error FPOLICY: Unable to apply file policy on (invalid or unknown path) requested by (Unknown)(): could not build path for use by a file screen server. Therefore no file screen server was notified of this client's request.
File System Archiving from a NetApp filer running Data ONTAP 7.3, with the deletion of archived files on placeholder deletion.
The path limit is due to a Network Appliance Data ONTAP 7.3 FPolicy restriction.
The path to a folder that contains placeholders must not exceed 256 characters if you want to use the 'delete archived file when placeholder is deleted' FSA feature with a NetApp filer that runs Data ONTAP 7.3.
The problem does not apply to archiving from NetApp filers that run a later version of Data ONTAP, where Enterprise Vault supports that version.
This issue has been addressed as part of the following release:
