Issue



A new installation of the Backup Exec Archiving Option or an upgrade to Backup Exec 2010 R3 that includes a new installation of the Archiving Option fails with the below error.

 


Error



The Backup Exec Archiving option installation did not complete successfully. To find a solution, go to:

Cause



Archiving Option fails to install because of failure with Enterprise Vault installation.

 


Solution



 
Perform a manual uninstall and reinstall of the Archiving Option per the steps below:
 
 
1. On the media server, open the Backup Exec Administration Console.

2.
On the Tools menu, click Install Options and License Keys on this Media Server.

3.
Do one of the following:
  • If a license key is entered, select the license keys of the Exchange Mailbox Archiving Option and/or the File System Archiving Option (whichever installed). Click Remove, and then click Next.
  • If Backup Exec is installed as trial version, click Next. On the Configure Options dialog box, uncheck the Exchange Mailbox Archiving Option and/or the File System Archiving Option (whichever selected).
4. Continue to click Next until the installation review dialog box appears.

Ensure that the Exchange Mailbox Archiving Option and/or the File System Archiving Option are not installed.

6.
Click Install.

7.
When the installation completes, close the Administration Console.

8.
Go to the directory in which the hosts file is located.
        The hosts file is usually located at %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
 
9. Open the hosts file in notepad, and remove any entries made by Backup Exec.

The following entries are examples:

        # Created by Backup Exec Archiving Option
        127.0.0.1       EnterpriseVaultSite
        # Created by Backup Exec Archiving Option
        127.0.0.1       BE-MyMachineAlias.mydomain.com
 
10. Save the hosts file.

11. Restart the Backup Exec media server.

12. Open the Backup Exec Administration Console.

13. On the Tools menu, click Install Options and License Keys on this Media Server.

14. Do one of the following:
  • Enter the license keys for the Exchange Mailbox Archiving Option, and/or the File System Archiving Option, and then click Next
  • If Backup Exec is installed as a trial version, click Next. On the Configure Options dialog box, select the Exchange Mailbox Archiving Option, and/or the File System Archiving Option.
15. Continue with the installation as prompted until it is completed.
