Problem
You installed a Symantec product that is capable of identifying newsletters, marketing mail and suspicious URLs. You need to know how to test this features.
Environment
This feature is included in the following Symantec products:
- Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG) 9.5 or later.
Solution
To test the different dispositions you need to:
- Configure / enable the product to have the detect these different types of messages as per Symantec documentation.
- Send an email from an external source that must include one of the following URL in the body of the mail to test each of the new categories. We suggest copying and pasting the URL into the test message as all characters must match exactly as per the following samples:
To test the Marketing Mail detection the message must contain the following URL in the mail body exactly as displayed below:
http://this-is-a-test-url-for-marketing-mail-rules.co.symc
To test the Newsletter detection the message must contain the following URL in the mail body exactly as displayed below:

To test the Suspicious URLs detection the message must contain the following URL in the mail body exactly as displayed below:

The test messages should be treated as defined into the Symantec product to confirm the feature is working correctly.
