Oracle backup and restore jobs fail if the FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) is not in the media server's authentication list

"This server name is not in media server's authentication list. Enter the server's fully qualified domain name and logon account into the media server's authentication list. Server names in the authentication list are case-sensitive."  For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-5122

For restore jobs:

Cause

In Backup Exec 2010 R2, Oracle backup and restore jobs will fail when using the IP address or NetBIOS name of the Oracle server.  The Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) must be added to the media server's authentication list.

Solution

Enter FQDN and logon account of the Oracle server to the media server's authentication list of authentication credentials.  Server-initiated restores of Oracle to Backup Exec 2010 R2 work seamlessly; however, for DBA-initiated restore jobs you must add a command to the restore script to verify the job.

NOTE:  Complete the following steps to add the command to the restore script.

1.  Do one of the following and replace <node name> with the name of the node that was backed up:

a. For Windows operating systems, add the following RMAN command:
    SEND 'NBBSA_DB_DEVICE_NAME=Oracle-Win::\\<node name>\ORCL';

b. For Linux operating systems, add the following RMAN command:
    SEND 'NBBSA_DB_DEVICE_NAME=Oracle-Linux::\\<node name>\ORCL';

2.  Add the IP Address or the NetBIOS name of the Oracle server to the media server's authentication list.
