Requirements for Backup Exec 2010 R2,R3 and 2012 SharePoint Agent to backup MSF 2010 and MSS 2010.

Solution

Requirements for Backup Exec 2010  SharePoint Agent to backup MSF 2010 and MSS 2010

MSF 2010 and MSS 2010 supportability requirements (minimum)

·         Backup Exec 2010  R2,R3 and 2012

·         Windows 2008 x64 and later versions on ALL servers within the farm

·         64-bit edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Cumulative Update 2

  • List of compatible operating systems, platforms, and applications at the following URL:

1. Backup Exec 2010 R2 Software Compatibility List (SCL) - http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH137682

2. MSF (Microsoft SharePoint Foundation) 2010 hardware and software requirements = http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288751.aspx

3. MSS (Microsoft SharePoint Server) 2010 hardware and software requirements = http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx

The Backup Exec SharePoint Agent

·         The SharePoint Agent license must be installed on the Backup Exec server

·         To protect the entire farm, the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems (RAWS) must be installed on each server within the farm (minimum: RAWS needs to be installed on the web and SQL servers and other servers desired for protection)

BELA = Backup Exec Logon Account

Credentials:

If using a domain account, the BELA should be listed in each section below

If using local credentials, add the server_name\local_account to Backup Exec as a new logon account (Network > Logon Accounts > New) for each bullet below

The Backup Exec Logon Account(s) (BELA) designated for SharePoint backups must have the following permissions:

·         Local administrative rights on all servers with the farm

o   Note:  If using a domain account, add the BELA to the local administrators group on each server in the farm to avoid inherit rights issues.

·         Rights to SharePoint Farm

o   Farm Administrator

o   Application Pool Account

o   Site Collection Owner

o   Coordinator role (on all folders to be accessed in the workspace or document library)

·         Rights to SharePoint databases

o   Must be a logon account

o   Must have backup operators role on each SharePoint database

o   SSO (Single Sign-On) databases:  must be either the account name or a member of the group that is specified in the "Account name" field on SharePoint Portal Server Manage Settings for Single Sign-on administration page in the Single Sign-on Settings section

·         Rights to IIS (Internet Information Services) sites

o   Integrated Windows Security should be enabled with IIS rights

NOTE : Eventually only one account can be Site Collection Administrator [ Owner ] in Sharepoint . So , Locations might not prefer to change that account to BESA . Rather , add Site Collection Administrator in Backup Exec and then assign all the BESA privilages to that account and then accordingly add permissions on SQL server as well.
