Mac patch update fails with status code 6

Problem
When running any Patch for Macintosh process, the tasks fail with a status code of 6.
Error
Client shows a status code of 6.
Environment
SMP 7.x.
Patch for Mac 7.x.
Cause
Proxy settings were prompting for authentication. Manually running 'softwareupdate -l' from a Terminal window required proxy authentication, in this case.
Solution
Configure proxy settings to allow for non-interactive use by Macintosh clients.
