The index location backup for the Enterprise Vault (EV) fails with error given below. The index location is visible in the backup selection list despite the backup failure.
V-79-57344-33932 - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again. If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource.
The Backup Exec Agent for Enterprise Vault attempts to access the Index Location's administrative share using UNC. If the connection attempt from the media server fails due to permissions or a mis-configured administrative shares on the Index Locations, the media server will be unable to protect the index data.
1) Ensure the "EVBACKUP.XML" file is present in the EV installation directory (Default Location: C:\Program Files\Enterprise Vault\Reports). Open the file using an XML editor or Internet Browser. Locate the entries in the XML for the indexes, for example: \\testserver.db.local\F$\EV Storage\Index (where testserver.db.local is the name of the EV server).
2) From "Start -> Run" on the media server, attempt to navigate to the administrative share path located in step #1. If the connection attempt results in an error, such as “Network path not found”, check to determine if the index locations are configured as windows administrative shares and that the Backup Exec Service Account (BESA) and account being used for the job have full control of the administrative shares.
3) Confirm that the UNC path for the index location is now accessible from the Backup Exec Media Server by re-running the command in step #2.
4) Re-attempt to execute the Enterprise Vault Backup with the index resources selected.
