Environment

- Enterprise Vault 9.0.1 binaries installed on Windows Server 2003 R2 32-bit Edition

- Discovery Accelerator 9.0.1

- Microsoft Outlook 2003 SP3 with Post-SP3 Hotfix in Microsoft KB948073 installed and AttachmentMax and RecipientMax registry values set to 0xffffffff from Microsoft KB948074 installed on the DA server.

Cause

The Out of Memory errors are caused by limited resources available on the DA server. These resources include, but are not limited to

1) physical memory

2) available disk space on the drive hosting the Vault Service Account (VSA) TEMP folder

3) antivirus scanning of the VSA TEMP and export folders (should be no such scanning)

4) available TCP Ports for use in passing data between the DA, SQL and EV Storage Service servers.

5) limitations of the installed version of Microsoft Outlook.

Solution

This issue has been addressed as part of the following release:

Enterprise Vault 9.0.3 - Release Details
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH147782

Enterprise Vault 10.0.1 - Release Details
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH147787

Workarounds:
Listed in order of recommended implementation:

1) Ensure your Discovery Accelerator (DA) environment is optimized for performance. See TechNote TECH159520 for additional information.

2) Increase the size of the PST files being created. The default size is 600 MB. Increase the size up to 1500 MB (the hard coded maximum limit for EV and DA exports).

3) Upgrade the version of Microsoft Outlook on the DA server to Outlook 2007 SP2 with Microsoft hotfix in KB968858.

4) Reduce the number of concurrent exports / productions.
