Issue



To which version of Symantec Enterprise Vault (tm) can this hotfix be applied?

Enterprise Vault (EV)  8 SP5, Build 1048

This hotfix addresses multiple storage and directory related issues listed as below:-

1.  Small memory leak identified.
2.  ntdll!LdrpLoaderLock causing process whide locking.
3.  CADOContext::TryToReconnect() retries forever even if it has no hope of succeeding.
4.  CADODataAccess::AddParameter() causing excessive ADO locking.
5.  Storage Service may go into a Stopping state indefinitely when remote Vault Store databases are inaccessible.

Each issue has been addressed as follows:-

1.  Identified memory leak fixed.
2.  Don't rapidly load and unload VaultMessages.dll
3.  We now only retry 10 times.
4.  Remove code that is unnesesarily causing the excessive ADO locking.
5.  Ensure that monitoring threads do not start storage process during the restart of Storage Service.

Solution



To resolve the issues either:-

1. Install the attached hotfix on all Enterprise Vault servers running Enterprise Vault 8 SP5.

How to install this hotfix:-

  1. Stop all the EV Services.
  2. Backup the original versions of the files listed above
  3. Copy the patched files into the EV program directory
  4. Start all EV Services.

How to uninstall this hotfix:-

  1. Stop all the EV Services.
  2. Copy the original files into the EV program directory
  3. Start all EV Services.

2. Upgrade all Enterprise Vault servers to Enterprise Vault 9.0.2
