Issue

pcAnywhere messages appear as Windows is starting or as a user is logging in.  The messages appear intermittently, and usually affect only a small percentage of the managed computers.  The messages may be classified as an annoyance rather than errors, though they may result in end-user calls to their internal help desk.

Another problem may be that the pcAnywhere Agent plug-in fails to create "caller files", which are used during the authentication process.  The "host" computer (the managed computer running the pcAnywhere Agent plug-in) is responsible for authentication of the remote control session.  On each host computer, a caller file should exist for each user and group that is added to the pcAnywhere Settings policy.  The caller files exist in one of the following folders, with the extension of .CIF (for Caller Information File):
     C:\ProgramData\Symantec\pcAnywhere\Hosts
     C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\pcAnywhere\Hosts

Error

One or more of the following messages may appear on managed computers:

pcAAdminApp
A host is currently waiting

pcAnywhere Host
Unable to launch the selected pcanywhere host because another pcanywhere host is running

pcAnywhere - Security Alert
The pcAnywhere host you are attempting to run is configured for caller authentication, but no caller items could be found.
You must define at least one caller before you can use this host item.

pcAnywhere cannot connect because it is already connected

The following error message may appear on a remote computer from which a remote control session is attempted:
Invalid login. Please try again.
