Issue

When you try to add a Winpe boot image creating with the Symantec Ghost Boot Wizard you receive an error 'Invalid Image'.

Environment

Symantec Ghost 2.5.x and Windows Deployment Services.

Cause

The winpe boot image (wim file) created with the Symantec Ghost Boot Wizard is not WDS compatible.

Solution

Workaround:

  1. In WDS add a standard boot.wim image from a Windows 7 installation CD. The boot image will be located in Remote Install\Boot\x86\Images.
  2. In Symantec Ghost Boot Wizard create a TCP/IP Network Ghost Client Boot Image.
  3. Copy the boo.wim file generated by the Ghost Boot Wizard to Remote Install\Boot\x86\Images in the WDS server to replace the existing one.
  4. PXE Boot your client and select the Windows 7 image. The client will load the boot.wim with the Ghost Client included in the image.
