Problem
Installation of Symantec System Recovery Management Solution (SSR-MS) 2011 ends with 'Configuration Failed'.
Error
The following errors are seen in a.log (found in: \ProgramData\Symantec\SMP\Logs or \Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\Logs):
<b> Description: </b>An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.
<br><br>
<b> Parser Error Mesage: </b>Unrecognized attribute 'type'.<br><br>
Cause
This is seen when the default web site in Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager is configured to use ASP.NET version 1.1.x.
Solution
Open IIS Manager and change the ASP.NET version from 1.1.x to 2.0.x. Restart IIS (IISRESET) and then install SSR-MS again.
