Cause

The above error occurs while backing up SQL databases of enterprise vault if the user  account used for backup does not have proper permission.

Solution

The backup exec account used for backup should have the DBO role for all SQL databases of Enterprise Vault.

To assign this role follow the steps given below:
1) On the SQL server open the Microsoft SQL server Management Studio and connect to the SQL instance
2) Right Click on "Security" and select New
3) On the "Login-New" window enter the Login name <backup exec account>
4) On the same window under "Select a page" option  select "User Mapping"
5) Under "Users mapped to this login" select the SQL database of Enterprise Vault
6) Under "Database role membership for: <database name>" select "db_owner "

Repeat step 5) and 6) for all the SQL databases of Enterprise Vault
