Which versions of Backup Exec for Windows Servers can be used to protect Microsoft Small Business Server (SBS)?
There are two options to fully protect Microsoft SBS systems with Backup Exec for Windows Servers:
Install standard Backup Exec for Windows Servers edition, and purchase options to protect Exchange, SQL, and IDR (Intelligent Disaster Recovery) as needed. A Backup Exec server in this configuration includes the ability to protect workstations as well as other servers.
Note: Remote servers are protected with the additional purchase of the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers.
Purchase the Backup Exec Small Business Server license. This bundles options for Exchange, IDR, AOFO and SQL at no additional cost. It also allows backups of remote workstations.
Note: The SQL Server Agent is included only with the BE SBS Premium edition.
The version of Small Business Server running on the system will determine which versions of Backup Exec are compatible with it, as follows:
|Windows SBS version||Backup Exec SBS Version|
|MS Windows SBS 2000||10d, 11d, 12.0, 12.5|
|MS Windows SBS 2003||10d, 11d, 12.0, 12.5|
|MS Windows SBS 2008||12.5|
The following table lists the BE SBS versions and the agents included with them:
|Backup Exec SBS Edition||Included Agents and Options|
|BE 10d SBS Standard Edition||Exchange Agent, Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option|
|BE 11d SBS Standard Edition||Exchange Agent, Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option, Desktop and Laptop Option, Advanced Open File Option|
