Problem
You need to exclude specific web domains from Download Insight.
Solution
You can define one URL at the time in the Exceptions policy.
- Log on to the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager, and go to the Policies page.
- Click Exceptions and create a new exception policy or edit an existing one.
- On the left side of the policy window, click Exceptions.
- Click Add > Windows > Trusted Web Domain.
- Enter the URL you wish to exclude.
- Click OK, then click OK again.
Note: Prior to version Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2 (RU2), the use of port numbers, HTTPS or FTP URLs is not supported.
Starting with RU2, you can specify an HTTP or HTTPS URL or an IP address; either prefix excludes the URL or IP address for both HTTP and HTTPS. FTP URLs are not supported in the exceptions configuration, but you can specify an IP address for an FTP location. You can only specify one domain at a time. You cannot specify a port number.
Important: When excluding a trusted Web domain, files that users download from a Web domain are always allowed. However, they will be scanned by AutoProtect and any defined scans.
By default, Download Insight excludes websites listed in Internet Trusted Sites list, which can be accessed through Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Security. This setting is configurable from the Download Insight settings in the Virus and Spyware protection policy.
