Issue

You have used Windows System Restore to "restore my computer to an earlier time". Afterwards, Symantec Endpoint Protection malfunctions.

Error

Symantec Endpoint Protection client interface displays "File system Auto-Protect is malfunctioning". Clicking "Fix All" or running LiveUpdate or installation repair does not resolve the problem.

Cause

This happens because the Endpoint Protection LiveUpdate content is a mix of data and excutable files. When restoring the computer to an earlier time, System Restore will not alter data files but will remove executable files. If there has been new LiveUpdate content downloaded since your restore point, Endpoint Protection will be in a corrupt state.

Solution

If Symantec Endpoint Protection malfunctions after using Windows System Restore, uninstall and reinstall Endpoint Protection.
