Symantec Endpoint Protection may malfunction after using Windows System Restore

You have used Windows System Restore to "restore my computer to an earlier time". Afterwards, Symantec Endpoint Protection malfunctions.
Symantec Endpoint Protection client interface displays "File system Auto-Protect is malfunctioning". Clicking "Fix All" or running LiveUpdate or installation repair does not resolve the problem.
This happens because the Endpoint Protection LiveUpdate content is a mix of data and excutable files. When restoring the computer to an earlier time, System Restore will not alter data files but will remove executable files. If there has been new LiveUpdate content downloaded since your restore point, Endpoint Protection will be in a corrupt state.
If Symantec Endpoint Protection malfunctions after using Windows System Restore, uninstall and reinstall Endpoint Protection.
