When backing up Outlook ".pst" files using DLO, a balloon message will appear on client desktop, with the message "Delayed write failed".
Windows - Delayed Write Failed
Windows as unable to save all the data for the file \\xxxxx\xxxxxx\...pst
The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware.
The issue was observed on a desktop having Windows XP as operating system.
According to the Microsoft Knowledge Base, this error typically occurs when the "Enable write caching on the disk" feature on your hard disk is turned on.
However, if the "Enable write caching on the disk" feature is turned off, this error may also occur because the Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) hard disk controller may be configured in either of the following ways:
- You are using a 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable.
- The BIOS settings are configured to force faster UDMA modes
Refer to Microsoft KB330174 for more information on the issue. If issue persist, contact Microsoft support.
