Problem
GENERAL ERROR: After disabling Removable Storage Management (RSM) services on Windows 2000 and 2003, the system event viewer log reports EVT ID: 10005. NtmsSvc DCOM errors.
Error
DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service NtmsSvc with arguments "-Service" in order to run the server:
Solution
Overview: After disabling removable storage
management (RSM) services on Windows 2000 and 2003, the system event viewer log
reports Et ID: 10005. NtmsSvc DCOM errors.
Troubleshooting:
Review the Microsoft Event Viewer system log for this error
Log Files: N/A
Resolution:
Disable DCOM for NtmsSvc on Windows 2000 and 2003
1. From the Start and Run Menu, type dcomcnfg
2. Go to the Applications tab and select NtmsSvc, click Properties (Figure 1)
3. Go to the Location tab
4. Unselect the option Run application on this computer (Figure 2)
5. Click OK twice to save the changes
A reboot is not necessary.
