V-79-10000-11233 - VSS Snapshot error. A Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshot is already running on the target computer. Only one snapshot can run at a time. Try running the job later.
Cause
- This warning is given typically when the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) is unable to run due to another instance of VSS already running.
- This can occur when Backup Exec System Recovery or Symantec System Recovery (BESR or SSR) and Backup Exec (BE) backups conflict.
Solution
- Stop the Microsoft VSS service.
- Open a CMD window (Start > Run > cmd > <Enter>).
- Change directories to the BESR Drivers folder (cd "\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec System Recovery\Shared\Drivers").
- For a 32-bit system, type this command at the prompt and press <enter>:
VssProviderInstall.exe -unregister "Symantec SymSnap VSS Provider" "Symantec SymSnap VSS Provider"
For a 64-bit system, type this command at the prompt and press <enter>:
VssProviderInstallx64.exe -unregister "SymantecSymSnapVSSProviderx64" "SymantecSymSnapVSSProviderx64" - Start the Microsoft VSS service and reboot the computer.
- Run a test backup job to confirm resolution.
Note: VssProviderInstall.exe -unregister "VSS Provider Name" "VSS Product Name".
