This document covers the installation and setup of a Nirvanix Open Storage(OST) device for Backup Exec 2010 R2/R3. This will allow Backup Exec to utilize Nirvanix cloud storage as a backup destination.
The Deduplication Option must be installed prior to trying to create the OST Nirvanix device in R2. This is not a requirement in the R3 release.
The Nirvanix plugin must be installed on the media server in order for the OST Nirvanix device to be added in the Backup Exec console.
Attached are the installation instructions and file(s) needed for installation.
For 32bit systems use: SYMCpinirvanix_1_1_0_13000_x86.msi
For 64bit systems use: SYMCpinirvanix_1_1_0_13000_AMD64.msi
To configure Backup Exec
1. Create a Backup Exec logon account with your Nirvanix account information. This is the login information associated with the Nirvanix Master Account, not a Child Account.
See the following figure. Further instructions are available on how to do this in the Backup Exec admininistrator's guide.
Adding the Nirvanix OpenStorage device to Backup Exec:
2. Create an OpenStorage device. More information is available about the
deduplication option of the OpenStorage devices in the Backup Exec admininistrator's guide.
Fill in the fields in this dialog box as follows:
■ Name. You can enter any name (for example, nirvanix.0001). This name
is shown in the Devices tree view.
■ Server. Normally, you must enter services.nirvanix.com as the server name.
However, if Nirvanix has provided a different server name, enter that
name. nirvanix.com is another commonly used server name here.
■ Logon account. Enter (or select) the logon account that you created using
your Nirvanix credentials in step 1.
■ Server type. The Server type drop-down menu displays a "nirvanix" entry
if the BE Cloud Storage for Nirvanix has been installed correctly. Select
it from the drop-down list rather than typing it out.
■ Logical storage unit. The Logical storage unit drop-down menu
automatically lists all storage units that the Nirvanix administrationWeb
page has created. Depending on network speeds, this menu may take up
to 60 seconds to populate.
Note: If the drop-down does not display anything, please check your configuration and verify the Server entry above.
The Concurrent Operations field at the bottom of the dialog box specifies
the number of concurrent jobs allowed to run for this Nirvanix device. We
recommend that you set this value to 1 initially. Depending on your network
bandwidth, you may be able to increase this value later.
3. Restart all services after you create the OpenStorage destination.
