Cause

Permissions in the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Symantec key may be incorrect.

Permissions must be set to allow Administrators and SYSTEM to have full control over HKLM\SOFTWARE\Symantec and sub keys.

Solution

Note: Incorrect use of the Windows Registry Editor can have disastrous results on a server operating system. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows Registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the Registry Editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

  1. Open Regedit from Windows on the system that cannot be added as trusted. ( Start > Run > Regedit)
  2. Right-click on HKLM\SOFTWARE\Symantec and select Permissions.
  3. Grant Administrators and SYSTEM full control over the registry key.
  4. Select Advanced.
  5. Check the box "Replace all existing inheritable permissions on all descendents with inheritable permissions from this object".
  6. Select OK twice.
  7. Add the remote system as a trusted remote agent from the Backup Exec media server.
