How to verify licensing in VERITAS Cluster Server (VCS) 2.0

Solution

Starting with VCS 2.0 a license is now required to use the product.

Since "vxlicense -p" doesn't show VCS licenses, a new script has been provided, "vxlicrep".

"vxlicrep" provides information on VCS 2.0 licensing as well as other licensed VERITAS products.

NOTE: You must have VCS 2.0 installed on the system for "vxlicrep" to work.

vxlicrep
is in the  /var/adm/VRTSshrd/VRTSlic/bin directory and can be run as follows:

Example output:

VERITAS License Key Reporter version 2.00.015
Copyright (C) VERITAS Software Corp 2000. All Rights reserved.

NOTE: You will notice the VCS license shown in the above output is not an actual license for VCS, as it is for the other product licenses.

To see the real license for VCS you need to look in the following file:

# /var/adm/VRTSshrd/VRTSlic/lic/N2C6-683A-SNPN-P88X-TA34-3P6P-PP.vxlic
(Where the file name is license key from the "vxlicrep" output)

It is also possible to tell if a cluster is VCS or VERITAS Cluster Server Quick Start (VCSQS) using vxlicrep:

example output:

VERITAS License Key Reporter version 2.00.015
Copyright (C) VERITAS Software Corp 2000. All Rights reserved.

OEM ID                       = 1038

Features :=
  PLATFORM               = PLATFORM SOLARIS
  VERSION                  = 2
  TIER                         = 0
  UNUSED                  = 0
  MODE                      = PRODUCT MODE EZ VCS

The mode "EZ VCS" means this is a license for VCS Quick Start.
