Problem
When backing up a virtual machine that has any of the following applications installed and the data for that application is stored on a logical drive, the backup may fail.
Applications:
Microsoft Exchange Server (Version 2003 or higher)
Microsoft SQL Server (Version 2000 or higher)
Active Directory
Note: When this issue occurs, the drives the data is stored on will not be listed in restore selections as well.
Error
Final error: 0xe000fedf - A failure occurred reading an object.
Final error category: Resource Errors
Backup- VMVCB::\\ESX HOST\VCGuestVm\(DC)datacenter(DC)\vm\folder\VM Name
V-79-57344-65247 - Error. Cannot backup directory \zzzVirtApp001zzz and its subdirectories.
Environment
This issue occurs with Backup Exec 2010 R2 and Backup Exec 2010 R3
In testing this issue only occurred on servers that had more then two logical volumes.
Solution
A hotfix is now available for this issue in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned at the end of this article. Refer to the Hotfix link under Related Documents at the end of this article to obtain the hotfix needed to resolve the issue.
