Problem
Microsoft recommends to restore ConfigurationV3-DB of SharePoint Server 2007 for Disaster Recovery purpose only.
Therefore additional steps are required to recover an entire farm of SharePoint Server 2007 without OS recovery.
Solution
1) Delete SharePoint databases using SQL Server Management Studio
If SQL Server Management Studio is not installed:
a) stop windows service of the SQL server instance
b) delete *.mdf and *.ldf files of SharePoint databases
Please take care of that SQL server recovery is required if system databases (master, model, msdb and mssqlsystemresource) are deleted.
2) Restart the servers
3) Perform the disaster recovery procedure from step 5 documented in TECH53313
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH53313
Note: If the recovery is failed once, OS recovery is required.
