How to reset the statistics on the cleaning slot in Backup Exec 11d and above

Solution

There are times when it may be necessary to reset the statistics for a cleaning slot.  Most often, this would be when the tape is to be used a specified number of times per manufacturer specifications. For practical purposes, it is useful to reset the statistics so that the total mounts is 0.

To do so, perform the following steps:

1. In the Devices tab, note the label for the cleaning tape (Figure 1)

Figure 1

2. Right-click and select Properties | Statistics to see the current number of mounts (Figure 2)

Figure 2

3. Click on Media tab, select All Media in the left window pane (Figure 3)

Figure 3

4. Highlight the cleaning media noted in Step 1, then right-click the media and select Delete (Figure 4)

5. Confirm the deletion of the cleaning media (Figure 5)

6. In the Devices tab, right-click on the changer/library and select Initialize (Figure 6)
Note: Initialize will not wipe out the data from the tapes.

7. The label will be the same as before the cartridge was deleted (Figure 7)

8. The statistics will now be reset (Figure 8)

Note: It is not necessary to first move the cleaning media to Retired Media before performing the delete operation.
