Issue

If the Lotus Domino Path for the Domino Attachment and Object Service (DAOS) is entered with a trailing backslash (\) the Domino agent backup may fail with a 'Directory not found' error.

Error

V-79-57344-65033 - Directory not found. Cannot backup directory  and its subdirectories.

Final error: 0xe000fe09 - The directory is invalid.

Final error category: Resource Errors

Cause

When configuring Lotus Domino server 8.5.x with DAOS, a path is entered to specify the location of the DAOS (*.NLO) files.  If this path is entered with a trailing backslash then this backup failure will occur.  Examples:

With trailing backslash:

D:\Domino\DAOS\

Without:

D:\Domino\DAOS

The Backup Exec Lotus Domino agent determines where the Domino DAOS location is by querying the Domino initialization file, notes.ini which is normally located in the Domino server binaries location.  There is a line in that file that indicates where the DAOS files are located called DAOSBasePath.

Solution

Use the following instruction to remove the trailing backslash from the DAOS path.  Note that the backslash must be removed in both the notes.ini file and the IBM Domino Administrator so that a restart of the Domino server does not reinstate the problem path.

  1. Locate and open the notes.ini file in Notepad.  It is normally located in the Lotus Domino binaries location for a single partition server or in the Domino Data location(s) for a multi-partition server.  Remove the trailing backslash from the DAOSBasePath path from Notes Administration console or from the notes.ini file and save it. Notes.ini file is periodically overwritten by Notes Administration console hence its recommended to make the changes from Notes Administration Console also.
  2. Open the IBM Domino Administrator and remove the trailing backslash from the DAOS base path entry under the server document DAOS tab.
  3. Stop and restart the Backup Exec Remote Agent service on the Lotus Domino server.
